We just celebrated National Dentist’s Day and Dental Assistant Appreciation Week. It’s the hygienists’ turn next! National Dental Hygiene Week will be here soon, so let’s talk about team appreciation. The saying goes, “People don’t quit bad jobs. They quit bad bosses.” How do you make sure your team feels appreciated? On a more positive note, how about treating your team like you want your customers treated. Take care of your team, and they’ll take care of your customers.

Appreciating and valuing your team is much more than the paycheck you pay them! Employee morale is much more than the paycheck they earn. Would you rather your team come to work and leave feeling like they contributed to something meaningful and maybe changed someone’s smile that day or another day where work sucked the life out of them?

Be sincere and intentional with your words. A thank you on the way out the door may be received as a habit and insincere. A sincere and intentional thank you will go a lot further. Thank them for a specific reason like, “You nailed that temporary today. It looked good and fit really snug, and Mrs. Jones was pleased.” Or “I appreciate it when you….” That sure beats a short and simple ‘thank you’ as you have one foot out the door.

Value your team and see how the morale and atmosphere changes around your office. Get the most out of your team by going the second mile to show appreciation and give positive feedback.
