Being a dental assistant is a rewarding career, but it comes with its challenges. Dental assistants juggle many tasks throughout the day, caring for a plethora of patients while anticipating the doctor’s needs during patient care. Some assistants may not feel appreciated for their hard work. Unfortunately, not everyone understands the demands of being a dental assistant, which is why Bryant Consultants is highlighting Dental Assistants Recognition Week (DARW) the first week of March.

  1. DARW is the perfect time to give your employees a shout out

Everyone wants to feel appreciated by their boss, even dental assistants. Hopefully, if you’re a dentist, your assistants enjoy showing up at the office every day. Part of enjoying their job involves offering your assistants a competitive salary, educational opportunities, work-life balance, and positive office culture.

This week is a perfect chance to show your assistants how much you appreciate their dedication. Your dental assistants may be looking forward to DARW, hoping for some extra attention. Some ideas to help you celebrate and show appreciation for your assistants could be a team lunch or outing that keeps everybody involved. If time out of the office isn’t possible, consider gifting your assistants a thoughtful gift or gift card to their favorite restaurant or store.

  1. DARW reminds the entire team how valuable assistants are to the practice

This week is a great time for your entire team to show how much they appreciate the assistants in your practice. Assistants may feel valued by you, but may not feel the same about the rest of the team. While dental assistants may not work directly with dental hygienists, their efforts still contribute to reaching the overall vision of the practice. The team could show appreciation by chipping in on getting the assistants a special gift or even a thoughtful card, and flowers could reflect the rest of the team’s gratitude.

  1. DARW is a great opportunity to reflect on one’s career path

Some assistants may choose to reflect on their career paths this week. Setting both short- and long-term goals or working toward advancing their career may be on your assistant’s priority list this week. If you’re a dentist that feels like you’ve established the best team, it’s natural to feel a little selfish in not wanting your assistants to move on to bigger things in life. But, remember that they may have career goals too. Be open and encouraging if your assistants want to discuss with you how they want to advance their careers. It may seem difficult at first, but take time this week to support your assistants and their career path.

Part of cultivating a positive work culture is showing appreciation to your team. Bryant Consultants believes that every employee should receive recognition. There is no better time than this week to recognize the dental assistants in your practice.
