Does the scuttle of a recession leave you worried and wondering what will happen to your business and what do I do with my team?

Looking back at the past few years, I hope you can think, “I made it through that; I can make it through anything.”  I know you’ve heard, “Tough times don’t last. Tough people do!” What you say to yourself and what you say out loud matters. How you lead and communicate with your team can make or break your success in difficult times. During adversity, your team will have all eyes on you to see what you say and how you say it.

How you handle the adversity adversity will set the tone for how your team takes the adversity.

Be sure that you’re communicating with your team. It’s okay to say, let’s save as much as we can on supplies, etc. But don’t walk around saying you don’t have any money. Be confident, and don’t be a downer. You want your team to mirror your energy. If you usually sit in your office, get out, get down the hallway, and visit with your team, lift them up.

Make good choices and be your best self. Don’t get in a funk. Do things that fill your cup.

If your team wants to communicate and share their feelings, let them. There is a good chance they are concerned. It’s hard to over-communicate

It won’t last forever if you fall on hard times. If you slow down some, train your team, and do deep cleaning. Do you want to add a new service to your practice? This would be an excellent time to educate and train your team.

Put yourself in your patient’s shoes. Would you want an appointment with your dentist, and it’s a drag to be there? Be positive, don’t discuss current events. Instead, work on strengthening the relationships with your patients. Be sure your office is a favorable destination. Ask how they’re doing, how their family is, etc. Be happy and upbeat.

Remember, you get back what you put out.  Be the example you wish to see in your team.
