The coronavirus pandemic brought significant change to our lives. It’s been almost a year since the pandemic started, and everyone is slowly learning how to adapt to the “new normal.” But we’ve all come to accept that business will never be “as usual” anymore. Change is inevitable, whether planned or surprised. However, knowing how to embrace unexpected change isn’t always easy. As an owner-dentist, you might be feeling overwhelmed about how to run a dental practice or increase profitability during a pandemic. So today on the blog, our dental practice consultants share five practical steps you can take to reboot your dental practice during COVID.

Set aside time to reconnect

Whether your team has been apart as a result of office closure or you’ve all been slammed with a busy schedule, take time to reconnect with your team. You can’t afford not to invest time into reconnecting. Consider a safe and physically distanced, off-site team retreat for your practice.

Reconnect with your business plan too. Look over your cashflow, technology capabilities, and insurance needs. What was once a focus pre-COVID may not be now that the needs of your patients have changed. It’s the perfect time to implement long-term changes for your practice.

Learn what to start, stop, and continue

This goes in-line with making long-term changes. Your business needs are different now. Your team dynamic may be different than before. Just because you’ve always operated your practice a certain way doesn’t mean that the same approach will work in a post-COVID world. Assess your practice for inefficiencies that aren’t increasing profit or reducing costs. Focus on how your industry has changed and approach this task with an open mind. Think of ways you can better benefit you, your team, and most importantly, your patients.

Ask for help

Now is not the time to try and be a hero! You know your limits. You’re a dentist, not an accountant or trainer. Consider hiring an expert to help reboot your practice, show you how to evaluate your practice indicators, improve your hiring and onboarding process, and more. Dental practice consultants are also helpful because we take a look at everything involving your practice and make assessments without bias. That’s sometimes hard to do when you’ve poured your heart and soul into your own practice.

Communicate

Connecting with your patients has never been as essential as it is now. Some of your patients may not have stepped foot in your practice in nearly a year. Why? Are they afraid of venturing out during COVID? Your patients won’t know your COVID protocols unless you tell them. Maintaining an up-to-date website is just one way to communicate this information, among other things patients need and want to know, as well as publishing relative content to your social media outlets. Stay in your patients’ minds by maintaining communication about your practice, COVID protocols, new promotions, and call backs for maintenance appointments.
