Next week is National Dental Assistants Recognition Week. It’s clear how much dentists and the entire office rely on dental assistants. From assisting during treatments to disinfecting the operatories afterward, dental assistants often are the individuals who spend the most amount of time engaging with patients. They’re the ones that patients talk to while waiting for the doctor. Assistants are part of a well-oiled machine. Without them, the practice could not be successful. Now is your chance to show appreciation to your dental assistants. While you don’t have to wait on a designated week to show appreciation to your team, make sure that you don’t miss this chance! Today on the blog, our dental practice coaches share four ways to show appreciation to your dental assistants.

Gift them something tangible

Showing appreciation doesn’t have to be expensive. Consider gifting your dental assistants their favorite treats. A thoughtful gesture like this shows that you took the time to consider a special gift for that person. Maybe they have a favorite candy, snack, or other food that they enjoy. You could also offer gift cards to their favorite restaurant or store. If you aren’t sure which one is their favorite, give cash or a gift card that they can use anywhere.

Have a team luncheon

If your budget allows, consider catering breakfast or lunch for your staff, with COVID protocols in place. For a more budget-friendly idea, have a potluck where the other team members are responsible for bringing food, and the dental assistants get to request their favorite dishes. Leave the cleanup to the other team members this time so the assistants can feel a little extra special.

Let everyone know you’re celebrating

Let the entire team, patients, and anyone else that comes to your office know about the celebration by making a banner or sign to display at your practice. Also, take time to write a note to each assistant. Heartfelt sentiments are meaningful and allow the chance to share how much you truly appreciate someone. Ask other team members such as the front office staff, office manager, and hygienists to do the same for each dental assistant. You could also decorate the office with flowers and balloons in honor of your dedicated dental assistants.

Share photos of your celebration on social media

Social media is exactly that – it’s meant to be social. Your followers would rather see photos of you and your team than anything else. No matter how you choose to celebrate National Dental Assistants Recognition Week, we encourage you to take lots of photos and share them on your social media outlets. Another way to share how you’re celebrating is to spotlight each dental assistant on social media as well. You can do this by sharing a photo and a few tidbits about them.
